Empire Film Music Ensemble (Extra Credit Post)

A couple weeks ago, a friend and I went to see a performance by the Empire Film Music Ensemble.  They were performing the music from several popular horror films and since we are both film majors, we thought this sounded very intriguing.  When we got there, we noticed that two projector screens were set up to show the movie clips on as the orchestra played the scores live.  Neither of us were expecting to have the films shown while the musicians played (although, we should have been), so this was a great surprise.  The first piece they did was the famous music from Psycho.  I loved being able to hear the music live and being able to switch back and forth between watching the musicians and watching the film clips.  (There was even a little acting involved when the conductor added the scream of the woman in Psycho.)  They also played music from Shutter Island, The Shining, and a couple other films.  Being able to hear the music live while watching the film clips really added to the horror movie experience and made me appreciate the importance of music in scary movies even more.
The orchestra's performance was a great way to showcase multiple media.  It gave the audience a chance to really feel the music that we are all so used to hearing the famous films they selected.  This concert was a great experience and I highly recommend everyone go see one of their performances.
