Hovagimayan introduces different types of media, and the transformation of the media technology. The earliest was painting, which is to show and recreate the scene such as battle. The bloodiness of the paint scared people off, but didn't stop people to go to war. It proves his argument that the medium is just the message.
With development of photography, painting lost its meaning on recreating the truth. The medium is no longer only the message. The symbol and the scene that is chosen to be reproduced becomes the language that the photographers communicate with the audiences. With the further development of photography, film represents a new concept of the multimedia. It is not only recording the truth, but it also contains the idea of acting and recreation. It is a language of film. Other elements were starting to add into the film, such as sound and texts. TV cultural creates an international environment on the media. It is more a mass media than simply a piece of art.
With all the development of medium and technology, Hovagimayan argues that recording video and sound is the way of revealing truth. At the present time, people are more focusing on the various techniques for editing instead of "playback culture". We are now living in a more technological world in the "post media" era that's not longer about one medium.
I am actually pretty appreciated of the new art forms that allows us to edit and let the recording become a meaningful piece or better. With the new technology, we can record sound and review truth more accurately and clearly than before. It is just less necessary for recording, and I think the recording mythos doesn't fade away. It is included in the methods that we are using now.
